RAYS BULLPEN CONTINUES IMPLOSION

The Devil Rays' bullpen woes have returned with a vengance. After a disastrous trip to Boston to start the week, in which the Rays' relievers continually blew large leads in the second game of the series and provided another byline to the legend of Big Papi in Red Sox lore in the finale. Last night they continued on their path of ineptitude. Starting pitcher Jason Hammel threw six strong innings, allowing five hits and one run, before handing another large lead to th pen. Leading Seattle 7-1 entering the seventh, Grant Balfour, Scott Dohmann and Dan Wheeler, proceeded to give up seven runs in just two innings. It was another disgraceful performance by a bullpen that may be the worst in team history. The way the team is losing, I'm sure is hard enough for them to swallow, but compounded by the youth of the starters you hope the bullpen doesn't ruin the psyches of a promising starting rotation.

-Rocco Baldeli joined the team in Seattle, but won't be playing anytime soon. He has been shut down by the team for the season. After undergoing numerous tests over the summer, doctors have ruled out major illness/diseases, but can't determine what is causing the soreness in his legs.

-Carl Crawford's appeal of his suspension was denied by MLB, though he did have his fine reduced from $1000 to $750

Mission 2012
