LIGHTNING FINALLY UNVEILS NEW JERSEYS/LOGO AT FAN FEST
A few thoughts and observations from the Lightning Fan Fest held August 25th:
- The Bolts made a huge ordeal out of the new logo and uniform unveiling, ( see below) complete with red carpet, There was a comical moment when the giant jersey had some technical problems when they tried to unfurl it. As far as the logo change, it was exactly what was leaked a few weeks ago, so it wasn't much of a shocker. Like most Bolt's fans I have mixed feelings about it. I like the overall lokk of the jersey, but am not sold on the new logo. I Believe that the folks down on Channelside Drive made much ado about nothing.
- The Bolts did a phenominal job of making it very family-friendly. They gave away everything from bobble heads to, what I thought was the coolest item, small spiral-bound rule/informational booklets that explained everything you could possibly need to understand the game of hockey. Though the most useful item was the fans given away by one of the corporate sponsors. There was plenty of entertainment for the kiddies, with a rock climbing wall, inflatable obstacle course. The Lightning also brought in a snow slide which had to be a unique thrill for most of the young children, as it inevitably was their introduction to "real" snow.
- If the lines for autographs, many of which stretched half way around the councourse, is any indication of fan interest in the Lightning should be very pleased with attendance figures this season.
- I understand that it was the last football-free(college or NFL) weekend before the start of the season, but I couldn't help sarcastically thinking to myself "Nothing makes you think hockey like 90+ degree weather", Overall the Bolt's did a great job of putting the fan fest together, hopefully the fan turn out on saturday will be indicative of attendance for the upcoming season
